She is not incapable of technology. She is fluent in her technology.

The failure belongs to products that demand a new behaviour from the person least motivated to learn one. Every additional step — a new charger, a new interface, a new habit, a new thing that can break — multiplies the chance the whole system collapses. And when it collapses, it collapses silently: the family assumes the device is watching, and nobody is.

Every elder-care product that requires new hardware is really asking an 80-year-old to change so that her children can worry less. That is backwards.

The economics are backwards too

Hardware is not just an adoption barrier; it is a cost engine. A device-based service must recover manufacturing, shipping, warranty, and support costs before it delivers a single minute of care.
